What qualification badges mean on worker profiles
When you look at a care worker on Mycare, some of their qualifications show a badge. This page explains what a badge means, what it does not mean, and how to read a worker's qualifications when you are choosing someone.
What a badge means
A badge means Mycare has checked that qualification and confirmed it is genuine and belongs to this worker.
It tells you the credential is real. It does not tell you whether the worker is the right fit for you, or for the person you are arranging care for. That part is your decision, and a badge is one piece of information to help you make it.
The badges you might see
- Registered nurse. The worker's nursing registration was checked against the New Zealand nursing register and is current.
- First aid certificate. The worker's first aid certificate was checked and is in date.
- Health and wellbeing 3+. The worker holds a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing at level 3 or above, confirmed with the issuing authority. The badge shows "3+"; the exact level is listed with the qualification on the worker's profile.
A worker shows at most one badge for each type of qualification, and only while it is current. Badges are not a ranking. A worker with more badges is not automatically a better match than one with fewer, as different workers hold different qualifications.
Qualifications without a badge
Not every qualification carries a badge, and that does not mean it is not real.
- Some checked qualifications do not earn a badge, for example an overseas nursing qualification that is not registered in New Zealand, or a health and wellbeing qualification below level 3. These have still been verified.
- A qualification marked "Self-declared — not verified" was entered by the worker and has not been checked by Mycare. Weigh it with that in mind.
- A qualification marked "Historical — not current" has expired and has not yet been replaced.
Badges can change over time
Some badges, such as registered nurse and first aid, can appear and drop off over time as registrations and certificates come up for renewal. Mycare re-checks these and updates the profile. If a badge drops off, it usually means a renewal is due, not that the worker has done anything wrong.
Using badges when you choose
A badge is a helpful starting point, not the whole picture. Before you book, it is worth talking with the worker about your needs, asking about their experience, and doing any checks that matter to you. Police vetting and identity are handled separately from qualifications.
